Open The Gate Apprentices on Sky News
Did you see Fine Cell Work on Sky News last week?
As the new Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Shabana Mahmood, outlines her vision for prison reform, our post-release programme becomes an even more crucial intervention for the process of rehabilitation.
Sky News correspondent Mollie Malone and a camera team visited our headquarters to speak to staff and apprentices about the vital work that we do at our Battersea hub in South London, supporting prison leavers with employment skills, training and mentorship.
In the words on one of our apprentices, "The sort of change we need is not short term, it's long term. There are an awful lot of people in prison who have accepted that they've made mistakes, and they want the help to break the cycle."

I absolutely agree with Fine Cell Work’s ethos of support and rehabilitation for prisoners and prison leavers. All too often someone leaves prison, and finds there is little or no support to help them adjust back into life outside. Some are lucky and have friends and family behind them, but for those who don’t, institutions like Fine Cell Work are crucial in their integration back into the community, and in rediscovering their confidence, pride and self-worth. FCW is a vital link in stopping reoffending. And therefore in reducing the dire situation in our overcrowded prisons.
