Fine Cell Work is a charity committed to the rehabilitation of people in prison and prison leavers.

Supported by our incredible network of volunteers across the country, Fine Cell Work empowers people in prison to redefine themselves and rebuild their lives.

Make a tangible difference to the lives of some of the most
marginalised people within society

Our frontline services are delivered by a team of dedicated volunteers across the country, making possible the transformational work that we do. Last year we worked with around 200 volunteers, in prisons and beyond.

In fact, our organisation was founded by a prison volunteer, Lady Anne Tree. After tirelessly campaigning to change the law so that people in prison could be paid for the skilled work that they produced, Lady Anne established Fine Cell Work in 1997. You can read more about her, and our history, here.

Volunteers bring a wide range of experience, skills and expertise to the work that we do. We offer a range of volunteering opportunities - whether you are an accomplished stitcher, or are keen to support the wider work of our organisation.

By volunteering with us, you will learn valuable new skills, become part of our creative community, and play a key role in the future of Fine Cell Work.

Volunteer opportunities for stitchers

If you have previous stitching or textiles experience - or are willing to learn - you may be interested in volunteering in our prison stitching groups, in our Battersea workshop, or working on stitching commissions. The level of stitching required for each role varies, as does the time commitment.

"There is so much creativity locked up in prison. There have been many occasions when the men have astonished me with their creativity and artistry."

CAROLINE, A FINE CELL WORK PRISON VOLUNTEER

Volunteer opportunities for non-stitchers

For people who are passionate about our mission, we have a number of volunteering opportunities that don't require any stitching ability or experience. These roles include mentoring Apprentices on our post-release programme, making up the stitching kits that we send into prisons, supporting the charity at events, and with the day-to-day workings of the social enterprise.

"I worked at the Fine Cell Work Hub in Battersea, packing kits with a wonderful group of like-minded ladies and helping with dispatch in the lead up to Christmas. Having the exposure to the front and back of house operations was enormously helpful and rewarding in understanding and appreciating the many layers that combine to make the charity function so successfully."
