We are excited about our latest design collaboration with sculptor and painter, Margit Wittig. Known for her sculptural contemporary bespoke lighting and furniture, Margit's practice as designer and maker is inspired by colour combinations and textures found in nature.

Seeing textiles and sculpting as intertwined practices, the organic forms of Margit's sculptural pieces informed the design of this cushion. The textural qualities of Margit's work are expressed through tactile directional hand-embroidery - vibrant pops of colour appear in fly stitch across the design, mirroring the marks that Margit etches onto the surfaces of her sculpture.

The cushion is finished with luxurious charcoal piping, echoing the tones within the repeat pattern, drawing the colour outwards and creating a striking frame around the composition of organic shapes and embroidery.

This cushion pairs beautifully with the Silhouette Burnt Orange Cushion, also part of the Margit Wittig Collection.

    About the designer

    Margit Wittig

Margit Wittig is a sculptor and painter who designs and makes contemporary bespoke lighting and furniture. She launched in 2010, with commissions for handcrafted lamps.

Margit studied sculpture and stone carving at the Sculpture Academy as well as metal work at Central Saint Martins. A former physiotherapist, her observations of the human form inspire her figurative bronze and resin sculpture with a nod to Brancusi and Giacometti. All these influences inform her designs which have been described by Kit Kemp as ‘curious, intriguing, classical, yet lyrical’.

Your support - through donations or by purchasing products - will help to break the devastating cycle of reoffending and repeated imprisonment.

    £50 donation

    £500 donation

By giving prisoners hope that transformation is truly possible, they can envision a meaningful life after release. But nobody tells the story of how Fine Cell Work has helped them better than the prisoners themselves:

“Stitching allows me to use a totally different part of my brain and personality. I can move away from the more difficult reflections and anxieties and feel creative and purposeful. This means I no longer feel that my life has come to a halt and that I am of no use to anyone else.”
