Bargello is said to originate from 17th Century Florence, when a Medici married a Hungarian Princess. Decorative Hungarian tradition met with Italian straight-line stitching and Bargello was born.
Using long stitches formed by skipping holes on the canvas, vivid and contrasting colours come together to create an eye-catching, bold, geometric design.
Forming part of Fine Cell Work's Canvaswork Open College Network qualification, this Bargello piece is an important part of a stitcher's journey,

I had previously purchased this exact same case for myself, over a year ago. We had a friend from Australia staying with us and she admired it. Unfortunately, she was going back before there would have been time to order her one as a gift from us, so I gave her my (perfect and lovely) one, then subsequently ordered myself a replacement.
What I got should never have passed the quality person's eye: it was narrower at the top than the bottom and the seam is wonky. I could just about force my glasses in and as I had no replacement, I kept it. But I wish now that I hadn't. I did write to you and comment that it wasn't very good and the only reason I have held onto it is because you're a charity and you're doing important work - and that I hoped the next time I bought something I hoped it would be adequate. But I am not well off - and wasting that much money is quite expensive for me. This is not the first time I have received something that isn't good enough to sell. In April, I bought a glasses case for the birthday of a friend of mine, which was so ridiculously tiny, you could not have got a pair of children's specs inside! So I did ask for a replacement, sent the other back, waived postal refund and (stupidly) left the choice of colour to you. I received a - very much larger - disappointing black-and-white checked case, but had lost the will to live and the birthday was looming.
I will say that there is nothing wrong with the Bargello work itself; it's what has happened when someone has tried to turn it into a glasses case. I am quite upset that nobody bothered to contact me after the email I sent and, to be honest, it's rather put me off buying presents from Fine Cell Work. I have previously donated and I love the idea, but if you're making item for sale, they've got to be good enough to sell.
Excellent! A very special little item, l gave as a birthday present to a friend whom l had given one to, before. She had requested another embroidered case and was just as pleased to teceive another one.
I'm addicted to these glasses cases and I imagine others are too as stock is always low. They make perfect presents as they are both beautiful and practical. I like this design a lot

Our production process
Each of our products goes on a long and impactful journey before it is ready to be sold. And every one of our items touches the life of at least one prisoner or prison leaver in some way.
Our needlework kits are put together in our prison workshops before being distributed from our London hub to our wonderful volunteers. These inspirational supporters teach people in prison the necessary skills to craft each piece. The completed stitchwork is then returned to us, to ensure it meets our exacting standards, before finally being sent back into a prison to be 'made up', turning it into the final product (e.g. stuffing and adding zips to cushions).
In total, this process can take up to 200 hours and over 70,000 stitches (per piece!)
