Heavenly Quilts
Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the last month you will by now have heard about the recently opened ‘Quilts: 1700-2010’ at the V&A. Alongside quilts by Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry and some beautifully crafted examples of historical quilts such as the Rajah Quilt (made by convicts on route to Australia), 18th century coverlets, and a narrative bed cover which commemorates the coronation of Queen Victoria hangs Fine Cell Work’s ‘Wandsworth Quilt’ made by inmates at HMP WAndsworth. With quilts suddenly being propelled into the stratosphere of all things hip and covetable, capturing the essence of a yearning to return to the traditional ethos of ‘make do and mend’ Fine Cell Work is delighted to reveal our all new look collection of quilts. We can also say rather smugly that we have always thought quilting rather hip and covetable, long before Vogue.com declared it so!
Made in fabulous bright coloured scraps, new and vintage fabrics with pictorial embroidered details our cot quilts and wall hangings make a completely unique individually hand crafted heirloom for a new baby or child. As each is a one off creation it may differ somewhat from the images below, but these pictures show the beautiful work that is currently being produced in prisons across the country. If you have a colour scheme in mind let us know.
Fine Cell Work also makes large quilts to commission, based on both traditional designs and more contemporary styles. Visit our showroom to talk about a commission and look at what we have in stock, or call to discuss.
You can view some of our new cot quilt designs in our shop and learn more about how to commission your own design on our commissions page.
